North America interactive light rail and LRT map. Light rail routes, line coverage and full LRT network — filterable by type and construction status.
North America complete light rail and LRT (Light Rail Transit) network drawn from data mapped by OpenStreetMap contributors. Light rail sits between tram and metro: faster and higher-capacity than street trams, but built at a fraction of the cost of a full metro because much of the alignment runs at grade rather than underground. The same vehicle can run on street track through a city centre, transition to a dedicated median reservation in the suburbs and emerge onto a fully segregated interurban corridor — all on the same line. This map shows where those transitions happen and how each light rail system is structured.
